I currently have 2 clownfish and a Mandarin but I want to get rid of these and get either 2 leaf fish or a Rhinopias Fish and maybe a Lionfish. Has anyone on here have any experience with buying fish from the Divers Den section of Dr's Foster and Smith. I do not have a quarentine and want to buy healthy fish from the start. Also I read that Leaf fish are pretty hardy and resistant to parasites.
    Thanks,
    Adam

Without a QT, I'd say you are taking big chances. Not discounting Divers Den. I've never ordered fish on-line. Part of fish selection is watching behavior, eating habits, fin/eye damage and coloration etc.

I agree with the above statement but will also state that a good percentage of the fish that I own have been purchased from dr. foster and smith along with corals etc. They are very good about shipping healthy specimens. In fact I recently had a very positive situation with them. I ordered two fish, a lieutenant tang and wantanabei angel. Apparently the angel was sick so the next day they called me saying that when they went to bag the fish it appeared as though the angel was sick and they wouldn't ship it that way. What they would do was refund my money and hold onto the fish in qt to see if it's condition improved. If it improved they would call me to see if I still wanted the fish. I ended up purchasing it from marinedepotlive but they did end up calling me asking if I still wanted it when it got better. A++ in my book.

wanted to show you my little prize that I got this weekend.....You and I have the same taste in fish as I wanted either leaf fish or rhino. So I was at my LFS and here was what they told me was a frilly purple rhino...I was so excited I bought it right there:eek: as those are hard to find and it was a cool looking fish. I had been researching rhino's for a bit, but there is very limited info on the net as you might have found

well brought it home and got it settled in. Even though I had done research on rhino I wanted to know more info ...so I posted the picture on another fish site. WELL, come to find out this is not a frilly rhino but even more rare an ambron scorpion fish which has even less info out there. They are very similar fish, except this fish has 2 horns and a mustache.

Good luck at finding what you want. Remember though which ever you choose they eat live and some will never switch to frozen, so at least for a while you will have to set up a feeder tank. Mine is eating glass shrimp that is gut loaded. Plus they are both venomous.

+2, and I don't buy them the day they get shipped in either! Although, now that I work and the trusty LFS I have to wait two weeks to make sure that the staff isn't cherry picking the good stock and not leaving any for the customers. I was eyeing an angler that we just couldn't get to come out and eat, we've been target feeding it IQF krill and it will take food from our hands but it won't chase the stuff down. I don't have time to drop food in a fish mouth (even if it only wants to be fed once a week) so I was trying to train it to come after its meals and someone else bought it. It happens, but maybe the next one we get in will be eating flake (one can hope). Anyway, my point is, that I want to see it eat frozen food and lions can be particularly picky about that. We have one that won't touch the stuff and I've been sneaking him live mysis from my fuge to keep him from getting skinny. Whoever ends up with him is going to need to purchase live food and we don't carry any (owner philosophy).

Although I have not ordered personally from the divers den I know several people from my club that have and were very happy with what they received. I have ordered fish on-line and never been unhappy. But I still have and use a quarantine tank.

i had a pair of waspfish that i got from the divers den and they were awesome!! stung me once and i had enough! Ended up giving them away...but over all they were very healthy. I have only had good luck with ordering fish off the divers den. However i still recommend QTing any new fish.
