I've been having a strange problem. My peppermint shrimp are disappearing from the tank without a trace. No body, no body parts, not even a tiny scrap of shell. I have my livestock listed below ( I forgot to add cleaner shrimp and 1 remaining peppermint shrimp). I don't think there should be anyone there that would be killing them, yet they are no where in the tank. I know they are the masters of hiding out, but the majority of my rock is set up so that you can see in almost all crevices. Even if you can't see the whole shrimp, you would usually at least see an antenna. Any suggestions?

Purple reef lobsters can be predatory.

Snails are all doing fine. I have a bumble-bee snail, 3 astrea and 3 star astrea, and all are accounted for.

As for new rock, I added a frag about 2 weeks ago that's no bigger than maybe 2 inches across and flat.

We have considered the reef lobster as a suspect. He normally doesn't bother the shrimp. But who knows what goes on at night.

As for the live rock, we have about 50 lbs and haven't added any since April. The disappearances statred about 3 weeks ago.

The only fish we have is a false clown that we've had for 11 months, a bi-color blenny we added 2 weeks ago and a lwanmower blenny we added yesturday. The second shrimp disappeared 1 week ago.

Mystery solved. It was Zoydberg, my purple reef lobster, behind a big rock with the remains of my new six spot sleeper goby. Goby has been replaced, and Zoydberg took a one way ride to my LFS. Hopefully he'll get a good home in a really big tank.

K+ in not exacting revenge. I like to hear what you just said. A few on the site have threatened to kill that which has really done what it is supposed to do in the wild. Eat what is available. So thank you for that.
