What is the best sump design? I can't decide should I make a section for live rock/ bioballs, or should I just let the water go straight into my skimmer section. Maybe a filter sock in skimmer section water drains into first? Open to your ideas thanks!!
Will be a 125 mixed reef using a 40 breeder for a sump. (Skimmer section on right return in middle fuge on left(thoughts as of now))
    Skimmer is a sc150.

Im going to start building a 20 gallon sump in the near future... Ill have 3 sections.. Ill have the tank draining into the right with a sock and the skimmer there... Middle will be more live rock, heater, maybe some cheato etc. and left side will be return and I plan on hooking my reactors in off of my return pump.. I gotta check with a fellow 3reefer on where my reactors will dump into post-reacting though...

heres my 40 breeder sump/ fuge...

Fuge is on the right. Im going to have a maxi jet pump water from the skimmer/inlet powering my media reactor to fill the fuge. I have a valve where i can regulate flow so macro algae and pods will hopefull flourish.

SnooknRedz has the most popular sump design with one exception- most people split their drain from the dt to feed the fuge, with a valve on the fuge side to regulate flow. Either way will work, though.

Your reactors need their own separate pump and should drain into the return section.

I assume the bigger the better for a fuge but in reality 7"wx 10"H would be good wouldn't it ,I rather have a larger return section

The fuge at those dimentions would yield a hair over 5 gallons. once you add sand itll prolly be closer to 3 3 1/2 gallons. Mine as pictured is... the return and skimmer section are 6.4 gallons, and the fuge is almost 14 gallons.

I would play with the numbers a little to get what suits you, the above was fine for me.
