It is caused by bacteria and feeds off of light, nitrates, and phosphates. From what I hear it is pretty common in an immature tank and usually gets worse pretty fast. I am dealing with it right now and after cutting back on feeding and light, adding phosphate removal media, adding small fuge with chaeto, and regular removal of the cyano by vacuuming it is finally starting to slowly go away.

that explains why my tank has cyano now..i over fed the tank couple days ago, and my nitrate rose from 0-50 in a week,, ya crazy I know, my big clown died, but other corals and fish seems to be doing fine. After constant water change now its at 20. Hopefully it will go away soon.
