So Yesterday our power went out and it was no big deal it got fixed so everything came back on and it was fine.. So then I was doing a water change in the biocube and I dripped some water on the power strip on accident, and it made funny noises so I got worried and shut it off... once I got it all cleaned up I turned it back on.. but when I did my tank would not fill properly, I had to shut it off again because the DT and overflow was going to flood.. I hadn't touched any of the valves or adjusted any flow, and the same day the power went off and I turned it back on and everything was just fine when it filled back up.. just curious as to why the second time it would flood like that...

You said you had 2 short power outages in the same day? That's really weird[the power strip]..I'm not sure why it wouldn't work the first time, but then it worked again later...

no just one power outage. and when it came back on the tank started up just fine. then later on in the day I spilled water onto my power strip so I shut it off and the return pump was on it so my tank stop running again. and when I dried off the outlets and tried to start it back up again, the DT filled up WAY to fast and I had to shut it off so it didn't flood. The overflow wasn't draining near fast enough, so I had to go back and adjust all my valves.. I just dont get why the second time it did this.

hmmm..ive dripped water on a surge protector and it immediately tripped my breaker in my room... after i dried the plug with a fan it worked perfectly again...

idk how you have your drain pipes..but i have mine to where they siphon and they auto prime themselves... i can cut the power, drain my overflows, cut my power back on, and the water overflowing after a little while starts a siphon...

mine drains are T'ed at the end, at the top of the T i have 4 holes the water starts to flow in, once that water starts to flow a siphon is started and the water starts to be sucked from the side of the T..i have a cap with a nipple on the top... ill make a video for you if you wanna see....from what i can tell my tank is siphoning making it almost impossible to hear and is overflow proof...at least i hope

+1 to that. I was thinking most tanks were plumbed this way.

I don't know how it could overflow, unless it was somehow pumping water back into the tank faster than gravity could pull (or push rather) it downward.

To me, it sounds like a snail or something was stuck in the overflow line.

Yea I just didn't get why it drained once and started up fine and then nothing changed but the second time it just filled up like mad.. I honestly don't know much about my plumbing... :/ I eventually got it to work I just had to open up the outputs more and then it was fine... I have had it where it won't flood if the power goes off, I know where the levels should be, I just hadn't had the power go off and I hadn't had it fill up like that.

I think that is how mine is plumbed.. maybe something was stuck in the overflow that would explain it.. it was definitely the fact that the overflow wasn't draining fast enough, I fixed that, i just did'nt see why it didn't do that the first time!
