CUC Replacement Question

Took some time on my vacation to rearrange/clean up the tank.
While I was cleaning i found a whole bunch of dead snails under rocks and in corners. I bought my clean up crew from reef cleaners about 6 months ago and was wondering if snails just dont last that long or if there was something off in my tank. My nassarius snails seem to still be doing fine... i only lost a couple of those to my hermits . The ones that died seem to be a couple large turbos, 10 nerites, 5 astrea and 5 trochus. Just a ballpark. I Attached a couple pictures of the snails and the new set up.Thanks guys.

 

honestly either died fro improper acclimation, or your hermits destroyed the population. my bet is on the hermits. mine did that to all of mine except for a few.

 

May be age or insufficient food on the large snails. Nerites probably were killed by the hermits.

Replacing some of your CUC at 6 months sounds about right also.

 

I seem to have to replace some every 6 months also, I have heard that turbos dont live as long in the aquarium

Have you been having any issues with the smaller CUC?

Also do you have shells in your tanks for the hermits? Mine have never gone after any of my snail (knock on wood) but I have a lot of empty shells for them. Plus I ordered the reef cleaners hermit shells, and he included a bunch of shells that look like the nerite snails

Thanks I dont think i will be getting Nerites again. Do you supplement food for the bigger snails?

I have heard the same thing about turbos. i have heard that the are slowly cooking because or tank are to hot for them. Dont quote me on that.

My smaller clean up crew seems to be fine. I did loose a few astrea and trochus tho. I did also purchase shells from reefcleaners and scattered them cross the back of my tank for the hermits.My hermits are getting bigger. I am considering trading them in for smaller ones. Would that possibly help? Thanks Guys.
