So I'm setting up my 10 gallon reef, do I need a cuc if I am just doing a reef? I'm thinking atleast a few snails for algae on the glass. But do I need crabs or anything? If so should I just do the tiny blue hermits or go with an emerald crab or like a cleaner shrimp. Thanks

Yes, you will need a CUC. Unless you have fish, or really want one, a cleaner shrimp will do practically nothing as a CUC member. Cleaner shrimp clean parasites and such off of fish, but they will eat fish food as well.
You will only need a few snails, a couple hermits if you wish, and any other CUC member.

I think you will be surprised at how many snails you actually need if you want the algae and what not be maintenance free.

    Go here
    http://www.reefcleaners.org

Fill out the form and get his recommendation. Whether or not you buy from him (I recommend you do), I would follow his recommendation.

If you're not going to have ANY fish, that will impact the size of CuC you need. Be sure to mention it.

But if you ever add any fish later, you'll need to revisit this.

    all that is IMO
