this has been confirmed the digital guage is off by a good bit, thermometer in mouth read 98.6 the aquarium one read 102.8 so I would almost be dead at this point :p anyone know a good digital thermometer?

Not sure of a good digital one. I use a temp probe connected to my apex. But I have a backup one that isn't digital, but works just fine. It seems to read the same value as the temp probe. Since they are so cheap, I would go ahead and get two (for peace of mind). Looks like this:

Ahh I cant remember. It was probably either from my lfs (not a chain store) or from petco or something. I like the magnetic one though. I used to have a suction cup one, and the suction cup was poor quality. It fell off and flew towards a powerhead and broke. Scary stuff.

You can get used computer fans for about 5-10 bucks which are very quiet and move lots of air if you want to do a set up on your light fixture. I have had temp problems with my tank also and use fans over my sump which mostly solved my problem. It does cause significant evaporation so i top off a lot! Let us know what you do.

right now I jsut got one of theose clip on fans posted above and will try to see if this helps at all if not then I will use the computer fans to try and pull the heat out of the fixture to see if that helps any more.

on a side note the box fan did help but not as much as I wanted it to so this hopefully will help a good bit.
