Buying a refractometer

    There is so many different brands and normally you get what you pay for but what is the differance and what would be the best brands to get.I have survived this long without one but really want to ensure everything with my tank is spot on.

    Make sure it has Automatic Temperature Calibration and get calibration fluid. After that, I don't think there is much difference at all between the reasonable and expensive. I've been using one from DFS for a number of years. I think they sell it for around $50 works great.

    i got the standard blue one that you see all over the place. works good. i check it with calibration fluid every couple weeks. usually its not to far off.

    I agree, price doesn't mean better IMO when it comes to refractometers.

    I usually measure my salinity by taste.


    Haha, no please don't do that. Refractometers are a must, I think.

    I tried that it was to minerally and i started growing polyps :p lol

    I bought the meter from BRS

    That's impossible! You can only measure magnesium by taste.
