my tank is 90 gallons and both tangs were purchased last week and introduced together. they were like best friends when i left always swimming together and when i get back from vacation they are fighting. the hippo looks perfect but the tang is pretty shaken up and all scarred up. i will have to re arrange the rocks and try that, i been waiting for my anemone to move so i could do it anyways or i might take it back and get some store credit and just keep the hippo. i was concerned it was something else other than fighting.

Ah Yes... very much sounds like a territorial issue. Both fish are territorial by nature. I would agree that it may not have been the best move putting them in the same tank. But I have seen more bitter combination perform perfectly fine after they settle their differences.

Essentially those first few days the fish were introducing themselves to the tank; However, once one finds "it's spot", the line in the sand is drawn. This could go one of two ways from here... They could agree to each others habitats, or it could be a bitter struggle until one wins, killing the other. In this case it seems, one is winning that fight.

Keep a close eye on it. And if your gut tells you, that you need to separate them, by all means please do.

I would give them another week or so. since you added them together, they will still fight out for dominance. once that is established, you wil get a bit of fin flaring and mild chasing but that is about all. I added a Naso and Sohal to my tank together. Sohal is the boss and occasionally flares at the Naso who just goes about his business. Sohal Flared at me last night. what a beautiful fish. it just hung there and flared. Wish I had the camera.
