I need to get my house sprayed this year and was wondering if its dangerous for the tanks. Its just a normal spray, not fumigated.

I would definately cover it up tight and not take any chances but that's just me. I don't allow any types of sprays to be used on the same floor as my tank. I've read of a woman that couldn't figuire out why she couldn't keep anything alive in her tank. Turned out a Glade air freshener in an adjoining bathroom was the culprit.

I turn off all my circulation pumps and fans and cover the tank for an hour or two with a dropcloth. Once I have sprayed I open the house up to let it air out some before starting the tank again.

Don't forget to turn off the protein skimmer! That is the major air injection mechanism in the tank.

there was just a thread started this morning i think about someone's tank crashing because they had some walls painted and the fumes mixed into the tank. So i guess do all the above recommendations and then some... SEAL THAT PUPPY UP!!!

if you're simply talking about walking around the floorboards of your house shooting a little stream of bug killer...

I wouldn't worry about that beyond opening a window or two.

And don't spray above the tank (which sounds dumb, but I have my tank against stairs... if I sprayed along the baseboards of the stairs going up, I'd be spraying over the tank - therefore, my stairs don't get sprayed).

Fumigating is a whole nother beast. Seal it up and run your skimmers air intake tube outside.

oh right the skimmer, duh. that thread this morning made me think of this. I've seen random ants in the basement and boric acid never worked for me. any other ideas?
