What are the chances that 9" Naso, 5" Yellow, 4" Blue Hippo, and 4" Sailfin tangs will get along? I think I am pushing my luck. The Yellow I have has a mean streak in him..My Blue has been in the tank the longest, followed by the not so nice Yellow. My wife then bought the Naso and Yellow rode him hard until I physically (with my hands) pucked out the Yellow and put him in another tank. After a couple weeks with a Wrasse and Trigger I put him back in and by then the Naso was settled in and able to handle his own. No matter how much I rearrange the rockwork it matters not...the Yellow claims the back 2' section to this day. I have just added the Sailfin...Can you guess what happened?

sorry to hear that happening and I know how frustrating it is but I've had to remove my yellow tang at times as well...still have her to this day but she can just be down right aggressive to no end....she makes sure that it is known what parts of the tank are hers and if there is a new fish I introduced it will be known that territory is for the yellow tang. The temperament of some tangs is different that others but I am gonna take a wild guess and say that you are pushing your luck with all those tangs and the new one is getting picked on as well?

In my experience with all of these tangs (I currently have a 5inch hippo and a 5inch Sailfin )and they were added at the same time last october so just over a year ago they get along very well I have never seen any signs of aggression between these two but they are very different looking so that is a good thing The Yellow is the most aggressive out of the pack you have there the Naso the Hippo and the Sailfin are all pretty peaceful in my opinion I was thinking of adding a Naso actually. Since you pulled the yellow out for a while when you put him back in you might see less aggression. The thing that stinks is when you have an aggressive fish he can actually bully a fish to a stressed out death.

I have a like an 8" unicorn a 6" hippo and a 5 " yellow tank...haven't ever had any problems with these guys getting along at all EVER! When I added a copperband butterfly to the mix that is when the yellow tang became aggressive and wouldn't leave the butterfly alone so I removed it for a bit so the Butterfly could acclimate and get used to the environment. Need less to say, it work and the tang eventually ended up leaving the butterfly alone. The general rule I have heard with tangs and I'm not how sure this is true but supposedly, different shapes mixed w/ different colors of tangs is the key. I've used that i haven't had any problems

Holy.....c__p! Thanks for all the stories, good insight. A Yellow and Sailfin are too much alike in body. It took about 10 seconds for the Sailfin to get annhilated (is that how you spell that?) The Yellow fighting with the others I can now say was more like playing. I didn't realize a fish could move that fast...instead of patting the Sailfin with his spike...he preceeded to rip the Sailfin to shreads with his mouth. I actually feel bad. Um..bad move...the amazing part is I actually got the Sailfin outta there w/o ripping my corals and rockwork apart. He swam right into the net...I think he just wanted to get the hell out of there.
Sailfin and Yellow Tangs= Bad News.

    He even looks mean..lol
