I found a guy on CL thats selling 9 tanks andI was looking at the 50 gallon one and it came with a under gravel filter because I was going to upgrade it into a reef but I was wondering whats better a canister filter or an overflow box into a sump\skimmer? thanks;D

Over flow with sump and skimmer. Along with live rock and sand. IMO.

I have heard a reverse undergravel filter works ok but overflow with sump and skimmer is the standard

Under ground filter will never work it will allow for you levels to go way off mainly ammonia and nitrates
