Fun thread, LOL! My first tank was 28 years ago when I lived in Stamford, CT close to Long Island Sound. It was a 20g used for a hermit crab behavior study I wrote a paper on. I had no heater, virtually no flow, no filtration, no way to measure salinity...I never topped off with freshwater, just weakly water changes from the local beach park. After six months I dread to think what the SG was, LOL! After I wrote the paper I kept the tank going with stuff I found at the beach. Some time after that I checked out the two books that were in the library on saltwater. For many many years those books and trial and error were all the knowledge I had. The internet has been a great source for reefing...on the other hand some of the info that is continually regurgitated on the internet is also inaccurate, LOL! But then again some of the info in some of the books by "experts" was wrong too!

On a side note I remember when modems required you put the handset from the phone on them to function. I remember how cool it was once they started making "stand alone" modems that plugged directly into a phone line. I'm also a member of the original online dating service, LOL! I would never have met my wife if it weren't for a BBS run out of friends bedroom.
