Its all good haha, as long as you didnt take it as me being a smart ass. well i was but in a completely non violent way, thats just me... but i feel you internet is a savior to this hobby, as in most things. we learn SO much more from this tool than ever before. just up to you to distinguish the good from the bad.

    ROFL!

Bear in mind, we didn't have skimmers or powerheads, and the only lighting we had was the all-new standard fluorescent hood fixtures. In short, the only articles you could find about keeping corals explained in great detail how to bleach them and cure the skeletons for tank decoration. No live rock, no live sand... just a UGF and power filter...

haha so true. But seeing this hobby from that pov makes me feel so glad that we have the equipment we have today. I remember my uncle as a small child had a saltwater tank. I was roughly 7 or so and seeing his clown fish and trigger fish in a tank made my curiosity wheels start turning. He didnt have corals cuz from what i remember it was only a florescent light. i dont think that technology came along yet. Anywho its cool to reminisce about that as i stare into my tank.

Sorry to say folks that the internet is older than 30 years ago, that would put it at 1981.. The military has been using the internet since it was designed in the 50's & late 60's when Telenet was developed. After the 60's the military allowed schools, libraries & others to use it. From the 70's & 80's colleges & hackers were most of it's users, since all command were hand typed, plain text, & VERY long command!!! (ever looked at an address bar in your browser & said "wow that's a long address to get somewhere?) That is how it was done, manually.

The first wave of point to point communications to the general public was in the mid 80's & thanks to BBS's (Bulletin Board Systems) in the DOS world. Email was sent internally to that BBS only, unless that BBS was part of FidoNET which basically sent a message from one BBS to another, then finally to the backbone (the internet).

For a BBS to support more than one user per time, that BBS would have to run more than one modem which required more telephone lines.. Very costly!

The internet that we now know now & love did not catch on, until we put a graphical interface (thanks to Windows) where we simply click with a mouse.

So there is your history lesson for today.. ;)

Ah yes 1200 baud.. I remember 300, 1200, 2400, 9600, 19200, 33600, and maxed out at 56000, but was actually 53.3K since the telephone lines couldn't handle 56K.. Then you had one modem that couldn't talk to another at full speed because it wasn't a Hayes compatible or US Robotics it was a mess..

Far worst than a phone logging into 3reef vs a cable modem. It was painfully slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Sometimes it would display a line at a time!
