Well from the advice of a few people on here, I have come to the conclusion that I do NOT have enough flow in my 125 gallon tank. Currently running 3 MaxiJet 900's with about 160 lbs of live rock.

So my thought process is either doing the MaxiJet mod to get about 1600gph or just purchasing 3 new Hydor pump 3's that flow about 850gph. Price is not as much of a factor as longevity and versatility. The MaxiJet mod flows more, but I am modding a powerhead, and do not have the mounting capabilities that I would with the Hydors. Plus, I do not want too much flow and not sure if the 1600gph is overkill.

Any advice is appreciated to which I should do.

I think the minimun for a 55gal is roughly 1200gph or so. extrapolate that to 125, I would say you are way to low.

but, I am a newb, so cross reference my info.

I would Mod your current maxi jets
then get a 4th MJ 1200 and mod it
But it also depends on what you want to keep, Soft coral, LPS or SPS

Well, I am a newb also, so any advice is appreciated.
So is I mod my 3 MaxiJets, wouldn't I then have a total of 4800 gph (1600 a piece) hypothetically.

As of right now for livestock and corals, I have a ton (small forest) of pumping Xenia, 2 frags of polyps, 3 hard corals (forgot the names), 1 frogspawn, and a 4 inch purple tang, 3 damsels, a mandarin goby, and 2 coral banded shrimps. I know livestock is light right now, but I had a few die for unknown reasons....all water parameters are perfect.
I guess I am more worried the Xenia's would get blown away with that kind of flow.

Then place xenia in area of lesser flow. It wont be strong everywhere.

not sure with the mod if it spreads the flow out, or if its more in a narrow stream as with the normal maxis?

Some powerheads have a wider angle of flow which is not as strong(force) then a narrower forceful stream; but they can still have the same GPH flow rate

no, its a very wide and gentler flow, but a big flow at that. its like a propeller
