Advice from some one that has watched many tanks in earthquakes... do not secure the stand to the wall. Put an earthquake lip around the entire edge and allow the stand to move around if it needs to. This will keep the tank on the stand.

An earthquake lip? Is that just a lip around the front and sides of the tank that is part of the stand so the tank is set inside it?

I'm curious about this too, as I live right on a huge fault line and around several others.

Glad you are aware of that. Most think Cali is where all the quake action. We may have a lot, but all the US is prone to earthquakes, as is pretty much everywhere on the planet. Quite frankly I would rather have a bunch of small pressure relieving ones then one random massive one. NY is due for one and how much of NYC is built on fill (a lot). fill = liquefaction which is bad when you have so many old brick buildings. (think Marina District in San Fran in the 89' quake)

You've got those dikes to worry about though.

Oh yeah, Seattle area has a lot of quakes, and we are way overdue for a huge one. We had a 6.8 a few years ago, but bigger is expected. The city is NOT built well to withstand that. We will go sliding into Puget Sound.
