Summer is here and with that comes so many activities I can barely keep up with water changes. The last thing I will be looking into before I roll into summer mode is could I possibly add a Fuzy Dwarf Lion fish to my reef setup? Current stock is Majestic, Purple and Yellow Tangs, Blue Hippo Tang, 2 Blue Green Chromis, 2 clowns, Green Mandarin, some crabs, snails, a cleaner shrimp and peppermint shrimp. All fish have good size to them. Range from 6-2.5 inches. Thoughts? BTW I have sps, lps, and softies in my tank. Will it bother any of them? 125 gallon dt.Thanks

IME with my Fuzzy, the inverts may be gone depending on the lion, tangs should be fine. Corals will be fine after (s)he gets acclimated to the tank, otherwise it may rub and damage the corals while trying to hide. They are very messy and so are tangs, keep that in mind.

You might run into issues with the chromis and shrimp (and possible the crabs too, depending on their size). Keep in mind that all lionfish are predators-- anything that fits in their mouth is food. It shouldn't bother the corals, though.

Hmm....my wife would be pissed if her shrimp suddenly "up and ran off". I might want to think this one over. Always loved how majestic a lionfish is gliding through an aquarium.

I agree, your shrimp will most likely disappear. You should watch a dwarf fuzzy for awhile before deciding anyway. A lot of times when people are thinking of the majestic lionfish, they are thinking more along the lines of a volitan. The fuzzies don't swim around very much and don't have the flowing fins that are characteristic of most lions. If you do decide that you want a dwarf lion, you should look into a radiata.

All of these run the chance of being a potential food source imo, even if the lion is well fed. It's just the predatory nature of the lion. Some have kept the successfuly, and some havent. I would be in part of the later category.
