A while back I bought a used tank from a friend. He said it was not broken and there were no leaks. When I went to look at it I realized it was covered in algae(used to be a FW tank) & had long since been emptied out & the algae had dried. I decided to give it a go and get it anyways. Thought with a bit of work, it was a steal. (The 65 dollars was also for a metal stand) I cleaned it out and finally saw all the scratches that were in the glass. What else? The tank leaks.

So I took it home and washed it out several times with the hose. I used a distilled vinegar/water combo. Scraped algae off with a razor blade. Rubbed algae out of scratched with an algae scrubber.

The tank still has lots of scratches from the previous owner & needs to be resealed, due to the leak & dried algae on & under the silicone.

My question is...Should I fix the tank & use it? Or should I reseal the tank & sell it? I can use that money to buy a new tank at $1 per gallon at my LFS.

I'd probably say sell it...would you be happy with the scratches if you kept it?

lol. No I wouldn't. There's too many scratches. I think I'll sell it for $55, just enought to brake even on a new tank. Then I'll make some money on the metal stand. Sell it for maybe $65? It is powder-coated metal(aluminum I think). These are about $70-80 on FS Aquatics. Still in good condition, but I will be DIY'ing a stand.
