instead of a fluval, a great skimmer is all you need and a refugium would help too.

That's a big filter for a 29 gallon. Just remember, you need to open it up, take out the media and rinse it out at a minimal of once a month. Clean out the intakes twice a year. You should be fine.

As far as heaters go. I have no preference to a brand. You just need about 150 watts for you heater and make sure it is labeled for use in saltwater.

    Good luck.

I've only owned two different skimmers in my time with saltwater tanks. A Corallife Superskimmer and a AquaC Remora. I didn't like the Corallife very much and returned because it was just too big in my opinion to be used as a hang on, so I went with the AquaC and haven't regretted it one bit. Reef Octopus are supposed to be good also. I use the AquaC with a Rio 800 pump only because it's smaller in my 29 gallon tank. The maxi-jet is supposed to be more sufficient, but I can't vouch for it since I don't use that pump. Overall I'm happy with the AquaC.

Yeah buddy..go with the remora. If you do, I would try upgrading the pump. The MJ1200 is good, but i slapped a mag3 and it chugs. If you have a sump and have room to fit one...go with an octopus skimmer. OR even an ASM G-1. Those are pretty cool. For a heater, I use an ebo-jager 150W. it stays pretty consistent. good luck!
