I have a 29 Gallon tank that is not set up yet but I was wondering how many fish would be safe to have in there? I am working on getting all the componets for my tank just taking time getting it all!

1" of fish per 5 gallons of water is the recommendation. I have slightly broken this rule in my 29 gallon. So far so good *fingers crossed*.

it depends on your filtration and what kind of fish. Some fish are messier than others. the size of the fish matters too. Also if you over-skim, you can get away with a little more. I would say average 3ish. Maybe more if they are small fish and you overskim.

What kind of a setup are you going to have? FOWLR, or Reef?

ˆ This is good consideration to. I over filter, overskim and have relatively small fish which is why I probably have not run into issues.

I guess to be perfectly honest I dont know the diffrence between FOWLR, and Reef. I am looking into buying a Fluval 100 gallon filter and as far as that goes I have no idea.

FOWLR means "Fish Only with Live Rock". It's basically a saltwater system without any corals, anenomes, etc. Just fish and rocks. And reef I guess is self explanatory.

Well I guess I would like to have some cool little coral and rocks in there. So to answer the question I guess reef!

If you go reef, get a good skimmer, don't cut corners on that piece. Also, you will need good lighting and proper water circulation. I would advise against a Fluval, unless you are planning on cleaning it out thoroughly every week religiously.

What would be a good filter than for a 29 gallon tank?

+1 on most of that. I'd would agree with all of that except the part about the Fluval. I use one these filters and do not have to thoroughly clean it out weekly. Once a month I open it up to rinse the out the media. It's a pretty simple process that and only takes about 20-30 minutes of my time. At 6 months of use I recommend scrubbing out the hoses with a brush. This seems to work well for me in my experience. Other than a cyanobacteria outbreak that was traced back to overdosing coral trace elements I have not had any problems with algae. I have undetectable ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and phosphates.
