If you have ever thought of vodka dosing but were turned off by the cyano potential from feeding your water column, the new EcoBAK ULNS pellets from Warner Marine should peak your interest as a solid carbon dosing alternative. Hitting the stores WITHIN A WEEK, the EcoBAK uses a different polymer than the NP pellets out now and is made with dry extrusion resulting in a very porous pellet with high surface area that is not water soluble and only decomposed by bacteria making them a food source and substrate. If this is not enough, how about a 12 month lifespan and 1 unit (good for 50 gallons) priced at $19.99. If you have high nitrates, phosphates or algae galore, EcoBAK could be a savior. These little pellets may be a huge, huge deal.

And I heard that a certain 3reef member has been testing these for a few weeks now? 8) When is the review coming buddy? ;D

The Festo customer service rep was confused. "You want to buy them?" "Yes." "Please hold." ... "No those were just for testing technology." Oh well. I still want one.

Festo AquaJelly - Not for sale.

Nature never ceases to amaze us with its aesthetic beauty. It is no surprise therefore that nature’s fascinating creatures also served as inspiration for the new projects of Festo’s Bionic Learning Network. The structure and kinematics of AquaJelly and AirJelly are based on their biological model, the jellyfish. The test beds utilize cutting-edge technologies. AquaJelly, for example, is a man-made autonomous jelly fish with an electric drive and an intelligent, adaptive mechanical system. Festo’s YoYo product illustrates that fully automatic control is possible with the aid of mechatronics – it also forms a bridge to the company’s core competency, automation with air....

The Advanced Wireless Appliance Manager coming late summer from Oregon Scientific will be a big hit with many 3reefers. This cool device will keep track of how much energy you are using in real-time. Handling up to 8 appliances, you can keep track of your pumps, lights - everything - on your aquarium. The information from the plug sensors is sent wirelessly to a cool counter-top display shown below. Oregon Scientific went all out. Not only can you see energy use, but real-time cost, peak-pricing and carbon emissions as well. The Advanced unit will retail for $80 and the Individual unit for $30. You can expect a full review on 3reef when released.

Well my friends, the time has come. Earth Day this week marked the highly anticipated USA opening of the epic $73 million dollar Oceans movie. Yours truly is going tonight. I am giddy with excitement. The first 3reef report was back in December. It has been a long wait.

I recently got close to one of these BioBubble 'multipurpose animal habitats' that has been out for a bit now. I am a bit speechless. Describing it is hard. A dome aquarium that when you release the levers, extends vertically like an accordion. The water empties from the dome allowing you to remove and clean it. When you are done with fish, you can turn it into a bird or animal habitat. I better stick with pics and a video.
