The Portal, a side-mounted magnified coral viewer, is a little product that created a big buzz at Reef-A-Palooza last weekend. The folks at IVS saw a bunch of floating coral viewers and decided to design one that mounts on the front where most view the tank - brilliant! The Portal is a simple two-piece viewer that uses magnets to allow you to position the magnifier where you like and twists apart easily thanks to the contours of its ergonomic grip. The MSRP for the 4" units will be around $65.00 and the 2.5" units will be priced around $45.00. Their goal is to have 6" units available soon. The first shipment of Portals are already sold out with more on the way in late January. Their site will be updated in a couple days with new delivery dates. Time to get in line!

The new Warner Marine MF(Minimal Footprint) protein skimmers sport several innovative features. The MF 200 model shown below has an internal squeegee attached to a motor in the skimmer lid for fast cleaning and would make an interesting addition for you controller folks. Can you get a replacement at AutoZone? Anyway all MF models have new V.B.T. (Vertical Bubble Technology) drain in the middle to reduce turbulance and Italian Eden pumps that are incredibly efficient. According to the TV commercial, the SKrAPr will scrape the crud off your grill and clean your counter tops without scratching, ok, ok, but will it get the coralline off my aquarium glass without scratching? Here is a close-up on the new Red Sea test kits coming out next month. Red Sea did a much-needed overhaul on all of their kits - the plastic has been replaced by analytical grade glass vials. A single hand, high precision Titrator is included and a high resolution colorimetric comparator for the phoshpate and nitrate kits. These upgrades are extended to their Iodine, Potassium and Iron Pro kits as well. Red Sea is claiming much better accuracy with these upgrades. Check out the numbers below.
