A year back or so I was pretty excited about the WavePoint 35 watt HID spot lights. They were sexy, small and put out big PAR numbers. Well they are finally available via Doctors Foster and Smith. Pictured in the most recent catalog are the silver ones I described. If those are indeed what are available and you happen to like those, you might want to pick them up before they run out. As the WavePoint HIDs are morphing into some kind of black nightmare truffle shown below. Now I understand they did this to separate the driver from the lamp a bit and provide better cooling, but still ... just look at it. Anyway, they are not tossing out the old silver shells. They are now packing those with LEDs and will be available in the next couple months.

The MAX S YF-01 Dive Flashlight is the latest from MAXSPECT taking a savvy move into the scuba market. The next time you find yourself in a tight spot cave-diving, you might wish you had one of these dive lights cranking out a 3000 lumen SOS signal with 12 CREE XP-G LEDs. The YF-01 will last an hour at full power or up to 3 hours underwater at low power and is the top-of-the-line model. There are three other dive lights in the MAX S series that will be significantly more affordable than the $1400 MSRP on the YF-O1, but then again, what is your life worth? Available early in the year.

The new Ultra Elite 48" 4 lamp/LED Tek Light from Sunlight Supply Inc. is said to be the only true VHO T5 lamp on the market. Aqualux made bulbs with this fixture in mind that run at 95 watts each - 41 watts higher than current T5 HO bulbs. Beyond the intense light output, this is a nice aluminum fixture with a dimmer for the LEDs plus independent toggle switches and plugs for timers. No MSRPs at this time but we should see the 48" version soon with other sizes to follow. Several pics below.
