Christmas can't come soon enough as 3reef will be test-driving the new Kessil AP700 LED fixture around that time. Inside are a couple of famous Kessil "Dense Matrix Array" LED clusters that are supposed to be stronger than the A360 with new optics as well. Full independent controls of the LEDs and clusters along with WiFi control make the possibilities endless here. Phone apps include a color wheel and there is an acclimation mode that can ramp up over time. A USB port should allow for chaining multiple AP700s or computer connection. Is it Christmas yet?

I never thought I would want to spend $650 dollars on an aquarium powerhead. Even worse, spend thousands on a bigger aquarium to hold a $650 powerhead. But these are the thoughts that occur after seeing a Panta Rhei Hydrowizard pump first hand. Exactly when it started I am not sure. Perhaps it was when I placed my arm in the large display tank and felt the laminar flow across the length of the aquarium. Or when I placed my hand on the pump and realized the intake was diffused and fish-safe. It didn't make sense. The numbers are equally confounding. 5000 GPH at 26 watts - 15000 GPH at 120 watts - 50000 GPH at 348 watts? Seriously? How can this be? The Hydrowizard confused, defied and triumphed. Is it the SIC ceramic bearings? The carbon fiber reinforced plastics? It doesn't matter. I am saving my money now. Details below.

The new DōS pump is a quality two part doser coming soon from Neptune Systems. Users will have a lot to smile about as the DōS pump integration in the Apex Fusion software is a visual treat that gives you dose rates over time and even how much fluid is left at a glance. One has the option to enter a specific amount of fluid to dose over what period of time and allowing the DōS pump to determine dosing intervals or also modify the intervals themselves. Looking at the hardware, the beefy stepper motors offer great precision with variable pump speeds for adjusting from micro-dosing to water-changes. And maintenance should be a breeze with 1 click access to the internal hose and rollers. The only omission appears to be the 3rd pump, so if you want to dose magnesium, you'll need to chain DōS pumps. At $400-$500 each, that will add up. A very nice dose pump all the same. Coming this Christmas.

The sensational headline on the article linked below is misleading, this car does not actually run on saltwater, but it is unique in that it uses saltwater as the catalyst or electrolyte to help power its hydrogen fuel cell motor. The Quant e-Sportlimousine holds over 100 gallons of saltwater in its tanks to give it a range of 373 miles before refueling. And it's fast. Very fast with a top speed of 217mph. It will take you longer to say the name of the car than for the car to go 60mph (2.8 seconds!). The drivetrain is made by NanoFlowcell AG and they claim it has 5 times the energy capacity of lithium-ion batteries of the same weight. Of course, this high tech is not cheap and there is speculation this car will cost nearly 2 million dollars. But let's hope that comes down in time. Currently the e-Sportlimousine is being tested on public roads in Europe.

The Refugium Debate at MACNA was a highlight for me and many others I imagine. Credit goes to Jake Adams for mixing up the usual speaker slide shows with the novel and entertaining 'debate' format and Julian Sprung for accepting the challenge. These two not only played to a packed house, but did so with aplomb. They were prepared, made great points and were amicable to each other. The result was highly entertaining. Highlights below.

Julian

Julian is a pro. His demeanor, knowledge and humor made him a formidable opponent for the Refugium debate. Julian started off with the basic question, "What is a refugium?" He covered a lot of ground here and then boiled it down to what I believe were two definitions, one being a safe harbor for our pods and other critters from the fish in our tanks. And the other relating to the...
