Panta Rhei's forthcoming Hydo Jet sump pump will seriously move some water - crazy stats like 1100 GPH at 25' head while just drawing 90 watts are claimed for the medium model. And it's not just the screw pumps specs that will make it stand out - it is even rumored by design to be more pod friendly than most pumps seen today. This is essentially a sump pump version of Panta Rhei's Hydro Wizard pumps, so expect a similar price. Coming by the end of the year.

Just got my new jebao RW-4 wave maker. 500-1000gph
First off it does not pivot in every direction like the wp version. This is both a positive and a negative.
Positive because the build of the holder arm is much stronger, and you do not have to worry about the power head popping off and making a mess of your tank. Negative because well, less adjustment.

Ok! So the RW feels like a much nicer pump, and for only $20 it is a great upgrade!
The current is crazy! I ran my wp10 on highest wave 1 setting.
The RW is on LOWEST wave 1 and it is stirring up a ton of stuff the wp left sitting on the substrate.

The controller for the RW is also wireless so when I get a second pump I will run the master/slave wave setup.
Also the pump has more then 3 speed adjustments! It has 8 levels, each level illuminates a green led on the controller.

So overall, much better flow, better build quality, more adjust-ability, seems like a great pump so far!

Highly recommend this pump over the WP series!...

Recently an enormous amount of rare filamentous algae balls washed up on a beach in Sydney Australia and caused quite a stir for locals. Daily Mail likes to be sensational and say scientists are baffled but they are well-documented. Known as Marumo algae in Japan, Moss or Lake Balls elsewhere, Cladophora aegagropila has just peaked my interest as a possible fascinating alternate to chaetomorpha in our aquarium refugiums. Generally found in freshwater, Cladophora algae does tolerate a range of pH and water hardness as shown in Sydney. Cladophora is easy to grow and soaks up nutrients much like chaeto. The obvious difference between the two is the round shape which by design may make it more beneficial in that it would rotate in current better and not require the flipping I have to do in my fuge with chaeto. Cladophora is also farmed and you can buy it right now. Perhaps I am late to the party, but I am very curious if anyone has tried this yet in saltwater refugiums. Details in links...

Next month the Kessil A160WE hits the shelves. This is a tunable version of the 150 model that is compatible with the new Kessil Spectral Controller. A nice upgrade for only $20 more in price. How cool is that? First to hit will be the Tuna Blue at 10k - Actinic and the Tuna Sun at 6k to 9k color temp. I expect to see 900 of these new lights over all the frag stands at Reef-A-Palooza next month.

All the gee-whiz stuff with aquarium controllers are great, but I think the ability to graph conditions over time with probes might be a real aide, especially on a nano aquarium. So I've been studying my pH lately - looking over the weeks for patterns and zooming in on daily shifts. What an eye-opener this has been. My pH is all over the road with a bit more variation than is healthy I fear. I need to address it, but first I am trying to understand it. Just take a look at that massive pH drop below. That happened right after the refugium light went off and the actinics went on. I think this tells me light overlap is needed. I've had it in the past and probably need to bring it back. The controller is paying off.

What have you learned from your controller graphs?
