I see these guys for sale as frags all over the place. My question is how long does it takes these frags to become a nice (30-40 buttons) colony? I would like to get some of them if they dont take 3 years to become noticeable in a tank.

    Thanks

With decent lighting zoas can be one of the fastest growing corals in about 6 months u should have 20-30 depending on how many u started with, ur lighting and placement etc.

Some grow amazingly fast, you'll have hundreds of polyps in just a few months.

Others grow VERY slow, putting off just a few new polyps a year.

Good lighting and target feeding can certainly influence growth rate, but some are still slow growers.

check out my tankscroll pic, you can see how far mien have come in 6-10 months.

All zoathids in the tank started as frags of 1-5 polyps.
