way to go! i am in the almost exact same situation as your right now... got a neighbors tank and nitrates are off the charts
nova extreme pro 6 bulb t5 (added about a month ago)
melanurous, and yellow wrasse. did loose a sleeper goby and gramma to ich about 2 months ago
i have an aquac remora skimmer w MJ1200, HOB filter for the chemi-pure, 2 koralia 2's and 1 # 1.
i try and do a 20% or so water change every 2 weeks but actually turns out to be 3-4.
sump/fuge are a work in process.
one of these days ill get that in my signature
definitely check any foam/ filter sock type stuff. that stuff is the first to go with lack of cleaning, becoming "nitrate factories". i waited to long to take apart that cansiter filter
It sounds like you addressed every potential nitrate producing/perpetuating variable in your tank. I think that maintenance and a good amount of LR are the two most key factors in the nitrate reducing equasion.
I've been working on that goal of 0 nitrates now for the last year (sincem y tank was established)... still have yet to reach that milestone. Very much congratz!
