Mantis shrimps generally fall into two categories: smashers, and spearers. The Zebra mantis (Lysiosquillina maculata) is a spearer. It catches its food by spearing them. It can grow to the relatively large size of 15.75" and are generally easy to keep in captivity. You can get detailed information on the zebra mantis and other Stomatopods by going to Dr. Roy Caldwell's site - ROY's List Roy's List of Stomatopods for the Aquarium I spoke with Dr. Caldwell this past Friday about peacock and zebra mantis shrimps; here's a pic that Roy shared with me of a zebra mantis shrimp spearing its food.
