i never heard of a goby going that way but a lot of goby species are known for tank jumping and carpet surfing, commiting suicide that way

 

You ever see any problems with your 2 preditors hunting your goby? IMHO he had a heart attact due to consent pressure of the thought of being eaten by your Harli or Sweetlips which both would LOVE to snack on him. It finally got to him, tried to hide (which they due by burrowing into the sand in the wild) and just simply gave up.

 

Maybe the tusk but he seemed to do fine. Tusk 06/04/2003-Dart 02/09/2003 he died on 01/11/2004. Long time together but maybe your right
