That looks like one from autotopoff.com

I am planning on buying one this week. From what I have found online they are pretty reliable and simple. The dual float is nice as it provides an emergency backup. Just need to make sure it works by manually moving the floats occasionally.

And make sure the float switches operate on low voltage DC power not 120v AC.

How much are they asking? The unit looks to be in pretty rough shape. One reason I'd run screaming from a autotopoff.com unit is that the float switch attaches via zip-tie. That 's just asking for failure.

They are 51 for the ATO and a aqualifter is about 15$

As for the zip ties I'm not worried about them at all. Once secured they won't move and they don't interfere with the floats.

I'd spend $10 more and go with the JBJ.

IF you do go with that choice, build an eggcrate casing around it so no snails or hermit crabs can get to the float valve.

    Can you just use Gravity?

My DIY ATO uses no switches, wires, pumps, filling containers/buckets etc.

It works flawlessly for over 2 yrs. My SG remains rock solid steady too.

Best of all (money is an object to me ), it cost very little $.

I have that exact setup. Been only using it for 4 months but has worked flawlessly. It is however controlled by my apex to only come on for 5 minutes every 1/2 hour.
