You-Tube Mantis Shrimp Video

For those who have never seen a mantis shrimp feeding...here is a you-tube video. It is a little disturbing if you are unprepared for it! But I am amazed by it, and am draining my big tank of snails and crabs already feeding mine cause it is so cool to watch! I have also feed him some frozen silversides and that is fun to watch also as he comes flying out of his den to "snatch" up his prey. Like I said in previous post, he is a little piggie. Only wish I had a video recorder so you all can see him in action. I have found out that unlike fish and humans, me esp ;D, mantis will only eat until they are full...they will not over-eat and kill themselves.

Snuggles would have taken him out with 3 hits. LOL

However, Snuggles was a much larger mantis.

I love all those Mantis shrimp vids by that one dude. he makes them very dramatic and the tunes rock.

 

the real question is....can you eat them!! : jk

alright, I have told Bob the Mantis to smash anybody that comes in his tank and tries to grab him for a meal! We have bonded over the last few days, especially since I have settled on a name....(besides I get first dibs!):

 

Bob would hardly be considered as an appetizer when compared to the "eating" sized mantis
