I have noticed my yellow tang fins and snout (mouth) have turned a reddish-orange look. Is this normal? What cause it?

I Dont believe that is Normal in any manner.

    What are your parameters for:

    PH-
    KH-
    Ammonia-
    Nitrate-
    Nitrite-

    Tank Size-
    What Do you Feed it-

? Those will help us figure out more of the situation.

My guess is it could be a kind of skin infection or the fish is getting ammonia burns. But those things I asked for will help greatly.

Do you have an ammonia test kit? If so thats where I would start.

I realize I should have added more info. On Christmas Day went to a rehabilitation with a fractured vertebrea and I was released 2 days ago(2/27/10) My wife has nothing to do with the aquarium other than feed the fish. Heres my plan any comments will be greatly appreciated. It's a 75 gal. tank and when i got home the water level was extremely low do to evaporation. I am adding fresh water 5 gal. yesterday and 5 gal. today. The specific gravity is still reading 1.025 I am going to let it sit for about 2 weeks and then do a tank cleaning and 25 % water change, and see where it goes from ther.

i have seen yellow tangs get a light orangish-red coloration as they get bigger around their mouth. Is there any open areas or is it raised etc? Could just be the fish you have

You should do water changes with low salt levels instead of adding fresh water to the tank

In yellow tangs, that skin coloration is often associated with an infection. I've seen it several times before.

are you sure its a yellow and not a mimic or a brown or something that looks like a yellow?
