    Anybody know what this is on my mushroom rock? It's really bright yellow and is only spreading on that one rock.

    I guess its an encrusting sponge or demi sponge

    but I cant ID properly or give a Latin name for it

    Thanks, Steve - I didn't even think about a sponge! I tried to get a close enough shot to show the membrane that runs all through it. I was looking at it last night and it had what looked like little open "pores" in places.

    +1 on the encrusting sponge. I have orange encrusting sponge on one of my rocks. It's not harmful. You may want to try to touch it - if it's soft it may well also be a Tunicate - also not harmful.

    Thanks, Zach. Me? Not touch something in the tank? I should have put that in earlier - it's definitely squishy.

    Great looking sponge TM. Personally, I think it's stuff like this that makes a tank look natural.
