Mine hasn't spread at alll for the past month. I want more.
I've heard that if you aim a powerhead to the colony it will stop spreading but I'm not sure if that's true or not.

I have one colony with natural sunlight and I have another under T5's. Everytime I try xenia under my MH's, they melt away to nothing.

I would aim the powerhead at mine to encourage spreading in a desired direction. If I wanted it to take to an adjacent rock, aim a powerhead at it in the same direction.

I heard there is no rhyme or reason behind what tanks they thrive in...

There really isn't. I've found that it does really well under really bright lighting though. In your case, exercise the thumb and pointer. Best way to control it was to just grab and pull. Being sure to get any/all traces of the coral. Any flesh left behind will sprout new polyps. Kept in the sand with nothing close enough to touch is a good way to slow spreading down. Some damsels like to eat it if you have any...

Thanks for the info, I was thinking of getting them onto the back glass and letting them spread around there.
