I am thinking about setting up a fish only and taking the fish from my reef and putting them in there and just having a reef would that be better for it

So your goal is to have 2 tanks (Fish in one) (reef/corals and such)?

    I don't see why not?

You would do better with at least a couple fish in the reef tank. Corals feed well off the fish waste

If you ever watch nat geo or go diving on the reefs, there are millions of fish in the wild.

Is it possible to sustain a coral only reef? Yes.

    Would it be better? No.

As stated, corals feed of the fish waste and some fish eat harmful pests and algae that may grow on the reef. I believe fish are a crucial benefit to creating an ecosystem for a reef to thrive in, so no, I don't think it would do better without them.

If you don't want to do fish how about some cleaner shrimp. They are pretty and fun to watch.

it can be done. You will just have to feed the corals more. I had a frag tank that I didnt have a fish in, and I just couldnt keep up with the feedings and the corals started to receed. I added a fish and they started doing better. Just my experience
