Last night I was checking out the tank with a flashlight when this guy came wiggling through the water. Not sure if it is something I want in the tank or not. It is about 3" long and when it stops moving (rarely) I do not see any noticeable bristles on it.

Looks like a harmless bristle to me.

Well, I put it back in after reading the response from Corailline so we will see if it turns into a monster or not!

What is the diameter of the thing at that size? I just can't help but imagine some giant furry moray coming out of the rocks while I'm moving a mushroom rock, latching onto my wrist and stripping the flesh in two tenths of a second!

    Probably 1/3-1/4 thick.

It lives in the same burrow as my yellow watch man goby.

Comes out and eats with the fish.

Bristle worms for the most part are hugely ugly but harmless.
