I put my elegance coral close to frogspawn. I have heard that different types of euphillia will not sting each other. Does this apply to these two species?

I dont think an elegance is a euphilia, its scientific name is Catalaphyllia jardinei. Regardless of that I would do whatever you can to get some space between them.

I can say that my elegance and torch are now about 8 inches away from each other when fully inflated/ extended

they have been closer (prior to some tank changes) but both seem to expand much better now they are further away

Yes, they can hurt each other so keep them well apart. Also, place the elegance more closer to the water intake or at the end of the water flow than the other this is to prevent any thing they give out from hurting others.

An elegance can and will kill nearly any other coral and will even eat fish who get caught. I would keep some space.

The Catalaphyllia genus is in the Euphylliidae family
