so just set up another soon to be reef tank, and i have the live rock and sand in there. i'm going to keep the lights off for a week or two to hopefully get some coraline going, i was wondering if i can throw some copepods in there now and will they start happily reproducing in there and will they survive the cycle etc.

I would wait and let the water settle in a bit. The "cycle" can be hard on critters.
