I am watching this show about sinking ships for the purpose of becoming artificial reefs, why does the metal not hurt the coral?

Im gonna guess that the flow of the ocean is so immense that any toxins leached are filtered away so fast that it never effects the coral. This is only a guess based on my noob status to this hobby

my guess is along the same lines. the sheer volume of the oceans and as said the currents to take harmful metals away.

Lol I remember seeing a tv thing on this and if I remember correctly the current helps with it but the ocean is able to counteract itself when it does leech out unlike our aquariums due to them being so slow current and the water that is polluted has no where to go and just keeps doing a continious loop in our systems.

It is not Just metal, It is Copper. Unless you see a ship made from it ;)

Dilution is the solution to pollution, remember that one?

Many metals are harmful to reef tanks, not just copper. Nickle, lead, cadmium, etc are just as bad as copper if elevated amounts. Even iron is bad as the rust is a perfect nutrient to fuel algal growth.

After the ship is covered with algae it is no longer a ship but an algae bed...I think that is where it all starts for the sunken ships...Just me thinking....For all thse that sent me MSg' I will reply soon....things are kinda twisted here....

Haha never really thought about it but, our mag floats. I see most people leave them in their tanks. Isnt this bad cause the metal inside your mag float rust over time? So the only time i keep my mag float in my tank is when im cleaning.
