I just bought a white seafan, and mine is a 1yr old mixed reef with live rock...

is it photosynthetic or will need feeding?

I've got some similar, they look just the same but are brown, not white.

I'm pretty sure yours is a photosynthetic. Mine grow well in low to high flow, medium light.

The one thing that I experience is that the gorgs in the lower flow get some kind of infection...it could be cyano, I'm not sure. It infects the tips, and can easily be blown off with a baster if I'm paying attention.

If left on, that stuff will eat away at the flesh, leaving the soft skeleton beneath, your gorg's tips look just like the ones on mine that get infected. Once the skeleton is exposed it is best to snip it off, then it will heal over.

The gorg I have in high flow seems to look the healthiest, although the shape of it will not be as desirable as it will grow to the flow.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Always assume Sea Fans need feedings and that they almost always belong in a tank with a frequent or continuous feedings of appropriate small particulate matter.

It will require feeding. All Gorgonians require strong flow.
