I inherited my tank a few weeks back. I've been able to ID almost everything in it except this one thing. I thought maybe a small feather duster, but that little cone on the bottom doesn't fit the ID. It gets skidish when a hermit goes near it and sucks up into a tube. Any ideas what it could be? I've already searched through the ID sticky messages and didn't see anything similar.

    Thanks!

However I do have a question, what is that little cone? I can't find any feather dusters on google images with a cone like that. Which is why I wasn't sure it was a FD.

    I believe it's an operculum.

A type of door so to speak that snails and other gastropods have.

I could be wrong but that is what I think of when I see it.

That was my first (and only) guess. :)

FWIW, there are so many different species of featherdusters that we haven't even begun to identify all of them.

Definitely a feather duster. I've got a few of them. They're cool.
