Ive been wanting to cool down the look of my tank a bit from being so white. I have a tek 8 bulb lamp, and recently purchased an ati aquablue special and a ati blue plus. Here is the layout of my current setup.

    10k aquasun
    10k aquason
    super actinic
    12k actinic white
    super actinic
    12k sctinic white
    10k aquasun
    10k aquasun

This is the setup that came with the fixture, I didn't pick these out lol. So my question is where would you place these new bulbs? Which of these bulbs don't really benefit coral growth or the general health of my inhabitants? Any and all help is greatly appreciated as always.

put the 2 new bulbs in the front. too many aquasuns in your fixture.

down the road replace some more with ati blue+, will get rid of all white look and still have the growth power.

The super actinics are the weakest bulbs in there. I would replace the actinics and 2 of the aquasuns with ATI Blue Pluses. Replace the other 2 aquasuns with the Aquablue Specials.

    Order front to back
    Blue Plus
    Actinic White
    Blue Plus
    Aquablue Special
    Actinic White
    Blue Plus
    Aquablue Special
    Blue Plus

If you want the color to look more blue always put a deep blue bulb in the first and last positions.

    maybe for now do.

    ATI blue plus
    ati aquablue+
    12k actinic white
    super actinic
    12k sctinic white
    10k aquasun
    super actinic
    10k aquasun

options will vary by different reefers, just start with something and adjust to your liking.

Thanks for the responses guys. I forgot to mention that I have 2 power switches 4 on one and 4 on the other. Would it be of any benefit to have all the blues on one for the am light?

most people put blue and actinic bulbs on 1 timer and rest on another timer. run 12hrs with actinic/blues, and 7-8 with all lights on.

I would do all the actinics/blues on one switch. In the AM and late at night, I usually have only my blue lights on.

Congrats on your purchases!! You're on your way to a bluer and cooler 8) tank!

It's always fun to experiment! Take a before pic (old combo) and a new pic for us and post.
