Hey guys, I've had a Gorgonian for a while. He's doing great. However, I didn't know if I had to place him in the sand or if I can put him in the rocks?

    Thank you.

What lighting are you using and what size tank is it? They like alot of flow.

We are getting a 4 Bulb T5 Lighting fixture soon, but right now I have 2, 2 Bulb T5 Lighting fixtures bumped up together. He's also right next to a Koralia 4.

    55g tank

Mine seems to love light. But when I changed from 192watt PC to 234watt 6 bulb T5 it lost a lot of its color for about a 2 months. It has now adjusted and it sits high in the tank gently swaying.

Thats plenty of light. You can move it wherever you want as long as it is getting enough flow it should do well.8)

Is lighting even a factor? I thought they were not at all photosynthetic.

Some are Photosynthetic. But also capture food out of the water column. I guess I should have asked for a pic of the Gorgonian in question. My bad.

    White polyps=non-photosynthetic

They do need some good flow, but more importantly they need chaotic flow. There is a waxy film that tends to build up on the skin which can keep the polyps from extending fully. If you notice this film building up, you may need some more flow to keep it clear. If this is not an option, you can also clean them up with a turkey baster once in awhile.
