I'm just curious here. My PH is stable at about 7.8 to 8.0. I'm not personally worried about my PH since my tank is doing really good. I have been told that a PH of 7.8 is fine as long as it is stable. Is this PH level good for all corals though? I would hate to give members the wrong answer based on my understanding of things if 7.8 is good for soft corals buy not of LPS or SPS.

All comments are welcome seeing as I'm still learning everything myself lol. I am hoping that everyone can learn from this thread. ;D

Swinging pH isn't a bad thing as long as it swings gently over time. A. Calfo once said in a talk he was giving that the surface pH of some water close to his home swings from 7 to 8.8 during a study he did over 24 hours.
Randy Holmes-Farley states that pH as low as 7 is acceptable and rises are o.k. as long as the rise takes place over a matter of hours.
I try to keep mine as close to 8.4 as possible but it will fall down to 8 over night and it might rise to 8.6 when the top off w/ kalk kicks on.

Mine is always around 8.0, never changes.

I remember watching a Mr. Saltwater Tank segment on pH one time and he said that it's a common misconception that a reef pH has to be between 8.1 and 8.4. He said his tank (which I believe is a SPS tank) always has a pH on the high end of 7.

My ph is 8.0 at 5am before the lights come on. I have been wanting to check it of the evening to see what the rise was. I have completely stopped dosing and my tank has settled in on the low end of prams. ph 8.0, alk 8.0, cal 420. mag 1300.
