im just guessing here but your pH might be too high or lighting is too intense for too long.

but to get more accurate advice you would need to list all the parameters of your tank.

    nitrate-0
    phosphate-0
    ammonia-0
    Dkh-10
    Calcium-460
    Magnesium-1300
ph 7.9 to 8.1 (was actually 7.8 this morning)

lighting im using is 2-150w 14k mh and 2 96w pc actinics. The birdsnest is approx 16" underlight.

It has grown considerably over the last month. I think it was really happy with placement.
Will it get back to normal?

Also is there anyway this damage could have been done by a hermit or something?

i have a leopard wrasse 2 firefish and a mandarin. When i first put the wrasse in my tank i suspect he nipped on my torch. Didnt see it happen just dont think it was the firefish although i might be wrong. Would it be possible the wrasse(or firefish or mandarin) nipped on the birdsnest?

I don't think the Mandarin would nip at it, and the leopard wrasse tends to be a reef safe fish. As for the firefish I don't know to much about, so you may have to google it. I have a couple of wrasses in my reef and I find if they do not get fed in the morning they nip at certain corals, so I try my hardest to get a morning feeding in ( but they love to sleep in) as well as my normal night feeding.

If a fish did nip at it, do you think it will recover?

I hate to say it but the same thing just happend with my birdnest frag , I had it for about 2 weeks and it was all good then it started looking like the last pic you posted then within a week all the polyps came off and were floating around the tank now its just a skeleton some of the polyps are still alive on my rocks. I hope you have better luck and it recovers.

flow is 1 koralia 4 and 1 tunze 6055 (on lowest setting)+1 MaxiJet 1200 and the return is a mag 12 (1100gph) going through a SCWD. I havnt changed the flow while having this coral and it was thriving earlier. I put 6 tablespoons of carbon in the sump a couple days ago. Can the carbon be the reason? I have 2 tangs in qt so iv been taking 2.5 gallons out of main every other day. Main is 100gal+45gal Fuge/Sump Appx Total Water is approximately 120gallons.
I have not tested for silicone, would you recommend i do so?
