Depending on it it's a cold or tropical tank.
I've always used guppies, platies, mollies(Trop) and Goldfish (Cold)

im planning on keeping a pink convict
    i have a few questions
    1. what tempature should my tank be at for convicts,
    2. how big do convicts get
    3. what can be kept with convicts
    4. what would you use to establish a tank, later used for convicts.

mollies are the all round SDs coz they can be acclimated to salt water aswell as fresh

Honestly, I would not use mollys. They do better in brackish water rather than in completely fresh water. If I were cycling a new tank (or rather, if I was just done cycling and I wanted to put in a few hardy fish to take the cycle further), I would use guppies (if I wanted live breeders), or zebra danios or platys.

As for your convict cichlid (yes, they are cichlids), they are quite hardy but very territorial (although not as territorial as other cichlids). Good starter fish, though. If you get a male and female, they will likely breed in your tank. Males can get up to around 4 inches, females less (maybe 2-3 inches).

In terms of what size tank for convicts, you could probably get away with 3 pairs in a 30 gallon tank. Oh, and I would keep the temperature around 77 degrees or so.

Actually the damsel of freshwater is a goldfish. Many people use goldfish to cycle their tank and they're super hardy.
