Hey guys, I am interested in knowing what the best salt is for a reef tank? I am setting up a 300 gallon and would like to know what the best salt is to use to fill up the tank for the first time?

    thanks and happy reefing!

    Well played sir well played!:)

OP you're gonna get a fight starting! lol!

You should prob start with where you are with the tank and what you're plans on! I'd start with Instant Ocean at least till ya get cycled! then why its cycling, research and decide whats gonna be for the best for what you have in your tank!IMO!

    Good luck!

Like in this hobby not everyone's tank is created equal. There are some decent salts out there but it pretty much depends on how deep your pockets go. That can be from salt as you request to pumps, powerheads, wavemakers, you get the point. But you are walking into a gun fight with a plastic knife asking a question like that.

I'd recommend starting with what you plan to use for the reef. It will save you a lot of grief and recalculating when you acquire corals and start dosing while changing salt mixes for water changes.
