Well I have a small amount of hair algae and I find that the astrea snails and scarlet hermits eat it but my nudibranch has touched it.

Hair algae is the byproduct of other problems, You might want to cure the cause rather then treat to problem..Just my 2.ct worth.. Other then a properly sized clean up crew of snails and a few hermits there is not much need to do anything else in any tank I deal with now or in the past.. .

What if you can't figure out the cause of the algae?

Well there's only a few major things that cause algae and it depends on the kind of algae you have. If it cyno then it's probably caused by excess nutrients as well as poor flow. Hair algae can be casued by excess nitrates, excess phosphates, or old lights...

I'd start by testing your water. That should tell the tale....
