Can anyone tell me the name of the urchin?

Also when I was cleaning my tank and doing a water change today I saw that it was sort of spewing out white stuff?

It almost looked like smoke....It is still moving around and appears fine, I was just concerned as to what that was?

    Thanks in advance

guessing a purple short spine, and it probably was spawning, kinda not a good thing in general as they usually do that because its not happy, or REALLY happy IIRC. what are your water params?

Thanks for the help everyone... Its been great having this urchin, it start off so tiny and has grown over the months...however I don't like it drawing all over my purple coraline rocks :p

    PH - 8-8.2
    Ammonia/nitrite - 0
    nitrate 10ppm-20ppm
Salinity 1.020 last time I checked (2 weeks ago) but should be higher now

I had a small damsel die a little while ago and I couldn't find it amongst all my rocks...my nitrates went through the roof but are slowly coming back down, that's probably the best its been in a while.

I'd get a test kit, thats low salinity and HIGH trates for an urchin. Was it white when you got it?

Its probably sitting close to 1.025 now...I haven't been topping up with R/O water, but I am going to check the salinity in a few days when i head back down to my LFS.

The urchin has always been that colour, right from when I got my live rocks. It start off as just this little white ball, no bigger than a 5 cent piece and has grown over the months.

What do you suggest that the salinity be at? I was always told that it was fine somewhere between .024 and .027

Sorry also didnt mention, I had a bit of an issue with white spot so I had a lower salinity due to this.

25/26 is good IMO, but do you not have a refractometer to test your salinity? That is a must unless you want a major tank crash ASAP IMO
